2010 Caulfield Cup First Declarations Leaves 109 Horses Remaining

News - Spring Racing
7 September 2010

After the first declarations for the major Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival features were taken today, 109 horses remain in contention for the 2010 Caulfield Cup on October 16 and Caulfield Racecourse.

One of the early favourites in the Caulfield Cup betting markets at Sportsbet before first declarations was Bart Cummings Faint Perfume, who is still vying for a spot in the final field and has also been declared for the 2010 Melbourne Cup and 2010 Cox Plate.

Cummings, who prepared last year’s Caulfield Cup winner Viewed, has paid the first declaration fee for 10 of his other stable stars including Empires Choice, Joe Blow, Landlord, Moatize and big mover in the betting markets Precedence.

Other exciting Caulfield Cup chances that are at the top end of the Caulfield Cup odds include Moudre and Metal Bender while one notable absentee is international champion Campanologist.

Top weight Alandi, who failed in their first two Flemington runs this spring, is also still vying for a spot in the Caulfield Cup final field as are eight others from the stables of Robert Hickmott.

All owned by Lloyd Williams, Billson, C’est La Guerre, British raider Imposing, Linton, Marital Law, Mourayan, Muir and Rundle are the other Hickmott-trained runners still in Caulfield Cup contention.

The 2010 Melbourne Cup first declarations as well as those for the 2010 Caulfield Guineas, 2010 Thousand Guineas and 2010 Cox Plate were also released today, hotting up the latest future betting markets at Sportsbet.

Now is the time to sign up with Sportsbet and lock in top dollar for the spring features before the odds shorten further leading up to the big races!
