Racing action at the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival continued on Saturday, when the thrilling Group Three Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) took to the Warwick Farm Racecourse.
Twelve smart fillies took to the jump on Saturday afternoon, with the Peter Snowden-trained Parables proving to punters at Ladbrokes.com.au you shouldn’t always back the odds-on favourites!
It was a gallant win by the three-year-old, paired with Tim Clark in the saddle. The duo was caught towards the back of the field on the turn into the straight, but Clark guided the filly beautifully to the inside of the track.
Notoriously known as a dangerous area of the course, the tactics paid off for horse and jockey as Parables powered passed the leading duo of Solar Charged and Chance Bye to claim full honours.
Solar Charged went into the 2010 Silver Shadow Stakes hot favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au, but proved a filly to watch this spring with a super start. Nash Rawiller took the reins of the Charge Forward filly, and the pair had a superb jump to take the lead by an impressive three lengths.
The two looked to have the win within reach had it not been for the standout finish from Parables, claiming a length victory. Chance Bye finished a further half-length back in third.
The strong finish from Chance Bye – the filly’s first jump since finishing ninth in the Group One Golden Slipper (1200m) – seems to have done enough to convince trainer Michael Tubman to jump in the $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens next Saturday.
John O’Shea was delighted with his smart filly’s run, and will see her through the Princess Series this spring. Parables will back up her 2010 Silver Shadow Stakes win with a jump in the Group Two Furious Stakes (1400m) on September 4, the Group Two The Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) on September 18 and then the spring target – the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) on October 2.
So if you would like to follow the potential star of the spring’s upcoming campaign, or any other of Saturday’s champions, make sure you head to Ladbrokes.com.au!
