This Saturday Warwick Farm Racecourse will host their sole feature race day of the coveted Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, the bumper card headlined by the $175,000 Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m).
Fourteen promising weight-for-age gallopers will line up in the 2010 Club Warwick Stakes, including a number of this season’s top contenders.
Early favourites for Saturday’s showdown include Chris Waller’s trio of Danleigh, Metal Bender and Triple Honour.
Veteran gelding Danleigh had a solid first-up spring start a fortnight ago when he ran second to Love Conquers All in the Group 3 Missile Stakes (1200m), but has drawn wide with barrier 11 for Saturday.
Doomben Cup winner Metal Bender has drawn better in barrier four and is resuming racing with both the 2010 Caulfield Cup and 150th Melbourne Cup as his main spring goals.
Honours List gelding Triple Honour, who won the Eagle Farm Cup last start, will jump from gate seven.
Other excellent runners worth checking out their odds at [sportsbet] include Gai Waterhouse’s multiple Group 1 winner Theseo having their first-up start, Tulloch Stakes champion Count Encosta, classy mare Run For Naara drawn ideally in barrier one and the brilliant Sniper’s Bullet.
Theseo, drawn in barrier six, will be ridden by Nash Rawiller who rode the talented sprinter to victory in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes earlier in the year and is targeting the 2010 Cox Plate.
The betting markets for the 2010 Warwick Stakes, scheduled as Race 6 and due to jump at 3:50pm, will open at [sportsbet] later today.
Other Warwick Farm Races on Saturday include the $125,000 Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1200m) featuring champion three-year-olds Skilled and Decision Time, and the $125,000 Group 3 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) where classy fillies Chance Bye, Obsequious and Solar Charged will face off.
