Masquerader the Favourite in 2010 Golden Rose Pre-Nomination Betting

Runner-up in last Saturday’s Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1300m), Masquerader, has opened as the pre-nomination favourite in the early markets for the 2010 Golden Rose.

The highlight event of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) is also the feature race for three-year-olds at the carnival and attracts an elite field of runners every year.

The David Payne-trained Masquerader is the current $4.40 favourite through to win the 2010 Golden Rose at Rosehill on August 28.

The Lucky Owners colt was narrowly defeated last Saturday in the classic lead-up race to the Golden Rose, when he finished second to Squamosa in the Run To The Rose.

Not A Single Doubt colt Squamosa, trained by Gai Waterhouse, maintained his perfect record of three wins from three starts in the Run To The Rose and is currently the third-elect at paying $6.50 to win the Golden Rose.

Other early favourites to take out the Golden Rose this year include Toorak Toff at $5 through, Group 1 Golden Slipper winner and runner-up Crystal Lily and Decision Time at $11 and $14 respectively and Hinchinbrook paying $12.

The pre-nomination betting markets offer the most lucrative odds that punters will find on the Golden Rose, so get in early and lock in your favourite before their odds shorten.

The list of nominations for the 2010 Golden Rose will be released on Monday August 28 and published here so bookmark this page.

When the entries are announced, the online betting markets will really begin to heat up before the final field of acceptances is out on Wednesday August 25.
