Melbourne’s prestigious Caulfield Racecourse hosted some thrilling action down on the track on Saturday and little delivered more than the $125,000 Group Three Cockram Stakes (1200m).
The race drew huge amounts of attention from the nation’s top quality mares and trainers, with a full field of 16 starting which turned out to pay to punters who went against the odds with Ladbrokes.com.au!
Lightly raced mare Rhythm In Paris claimed full honours in the 2010 Cockram Stakes on Saturday afternoon, and just a couple of hours before it looked highly unlikely the five-year-old would even start.
After two key scratchings, the Jason Warren-trained mare took to barrier nine with Ben Melham in the hot seat and claimed her first Black Listed victory.
Warren was delighted with the win which is his first at the elite racetrack. It arrives at a crucial period in his young career with big things set to come from the dedicated trainer.
The Bianconi mare sat in the middle of the field off the jump, then powered home in the final straight with perfect guidance from Melham.
Response started well from barrier one and took the lead for the majority of the race, but could not keep up with Rhythm In Paris come the last couple of hundred metres finishing a length-and-a-quarter back in second.
Pre-race favourite Lady Lynette ran well but did not deliver to her punters at Ladbrokes.com.au after finishing a further nose behind in third.
The surprising 2010 Cockram Stakes winner Rhythm In Paris will next jump in the $200,000 Group Two Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) on September 4 at Flemington. So make sure to back her with Ladbrokes.com.au as she looks set to deliver.
Also taking place at Caulfield on Saturday was the star-studded Group Two JJ Liston Stakes (1400m) which resulted in an emphatic win from Shoot Out.
