Although the action of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival came to a close with a massive Stradbroke Handicap Day last Saturday, there are still plenty of excellent races happening at courses around the country this weekend.
The next Group status event on the calendar doesn’t take place until Saturday June 26 when Queensland’s esteemed Eagle Farm hosts the $500,000 Group 1 Winter Stakes (1400m) for fillies and mares.
In the meantime there are a number of quality Listed races on this Saturday that are worth a punt on including the $75,000 Listed Belmont Guineas (1600m) for three-year-olds at Perth’s Belmont Racecourse, headlined by Group 1 WATC Derby runner-up Bridgestone.
But the biggest race on this weekend is in the Sunshine State again, when Ipswich Turf Club hosts the $200,000 Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m). Fourteen top gallopers will contest the 2010 Channel 7 Ipswich Cup including two Kiwi raiders from the stables of Graeme Nicholson, Sir Slick drawn well in barrier four and Sir Time Keeper coming off a solid sixth to Dariana in the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) last start.
Also held at the Ipswich meeting on Saturday are the $175,000 Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) and the $100,000 Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m).
