This Sunday the highly anticipated Hong Kong International Raceday is taking place at Sha Tin racecourse, the meeting boasting four quality Group 1 events including the Hong Kong Vase.
A line-up of top class horses from all across the globe will gather on Sunday to fight it out over the testing 2400m international staying event that has stakes set at HK$14million (approx. AUS $1.9million).
Last year?s third placegetter is back to try again, Jaguar Mail currently sitting at around $17 for a win, which would be the five-year-olds? first Group 1 victory. Jaguar Mail has the inside drawn barrier one and so will have the advantage of the inside running on Sunday.
Leading the betting markets are Youmzain at $4 followed closely by reigning Horse of the Year in Hong Kong Viva Pataca at $4.60. Trained by John Moore Viva Pataca has drawn wide with barrier 13.
The Mick Channon-trained Youmzain from Great Britain is rated equal-sixth highest horse in the world, has run second in the prestigious Prix de L?Arc de Triomphe for the last three consecutive years ?and is one of only four Group 1 winners in the Vase final field this year. The ever consistent six-year-old is in great form, having placed fifth or better in his last 17 race starts, all at Group 1 level over 2400m and will jump from barrier seven.
Spanish Moon fills the next line at $7.50 and is another elite galloper with a Group 1 win from Great Britain and is trained by Sir Michael Stoute. Spanish Moon will start from barrier 5.
