Australian Entrants Headline Hong Kong Sprint – Preview

This Sunday December 13 the esteemed Sha Tin racecourse will feature a sensational day of racing for the annual Hong Kong International Race Day, headlined by four Group 1 races including the final leg of the Global Sprint Challenge, the Hong Kong Sprint.

A collection of the world?s finest sprinters from Hong Kong, Australia, United Kingdom, United States and Japan are set to battle it out over the 1200m event with HK$12million (approx. AUS$1.7million) in prizemoney on offer.

This year three star Australian gallopers are entered in the event ? All Silent, Scenic Blast and last year?s Global Sprint Champion winner and Hong Kong Sprint runner-up with an imposing eight Group 1 wins behind him Apache Cat.

The Grahame Begg-trained All Silent is currently leading the betting markets at $3.70 after blitzing his rivals last start in the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic, while Australian Horse of the Year Scenic Blast is third favourite at $6.50 and the Greg Eurell-trained Apache Cat occupies the fourth line at $9.00.

Scenic Blast, trained by Daniel Morton, needs a win on Sunday in the sprint to secure the US$1million Global Sprint bonus.

Another highly fancied runner currently second favourite at $4.60 is Sacred Kingdom, who won the event back in 2007 and holds the track record for 1200m and 1000m.

The final field for the Hong Kong Sprint features nine Group 1 winners including all three Australian runners as well as Sacred Kingdom, Total Gallery, Borderlescott, Inspiration, Laurel Guerreriro and War Artist.

Leading online bookmakers in Australia are offering odds on the Hong Kong Sprint including Sportsbet.com.au so Aussie punters can get in on the action and excitement of this major thoroughbred racing event. There are also some fantastic exotic betting options available on the race including Pick the Origin of the Winner and head-to-head betting open on the three Australian competitors.
