2009 Melbourne Cup Parade

The Melbourne CBD is currently filling with a huge and excited crowd of racing enthusiasts for this year’s Melbourne Cup parade in anticipation of the feature Flemington race tomorrow.

As the annual Victorian Spring Racing Carnival reaches its peak, today a parade of past Melbourne Cup champions are set to accompany the iconic Olivia Newton-John along Bourke Street from midday.

Over 60 000 are expected to gather to watch Newton-John join Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Robert Doyle lead the parade through the city centre.

Former Melbourne Cup victors at the parade will include Brew, Rogan Josh and the great grey Subzero along with a line-up of Australia’s most prestigious trainers and jockeys arriving in convertables headed by the master trainer Bart Cummings.

Cummings is going for his 13th Melbourne Cup win tomorrow, his chances topped with current equal favourite and defending champion Viewed.
